Day 2 & 3: The rolling dunes of the Kalahari

Kalahari Desert

Towering over the pans of the Auob wetlands is the Suricate Tented Lodge which has been built on top of a majestic red dune.

The tents which combine the ultimate African safari experience with the comforts and luxuries of modern day living leave a lasting impression on all our guests.

There are 12 tents complete with mini bars, safes, mosquito nets and all the amenities available at the other lodges with the added benefit of an open-air en-suite bathroom and a deck. One of the tents is a honey-moon suite, which is appropriately distanced from the other tents and has its own plunge pool for the convenience of the romantic couple.

The main lodge area is also intriguing as it boasts a large deck that overlooks the entire shimmering pan and the warbling waters of the infinity pool release any tension. Guests can choose to have their meals in the communal dining room which also has a built in fire place and bean bags for guests to relax on or to enjoy their meal on the deck surveying the pans.

At night guests enjoy the starry skies with drinks by the fire pit with the friendly staff at your beck and call, ready and willing to assist you with planning your day or with facilitating any activities guests may want to enjoy.

Fish River Canyon

Three hundred million years of geological wonder lie below Fish River Lodge, the only lodge perched directly on the rim of the Fish River Canyon, the world’s second largest canyon.

From the comfort of your bed, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Canyon from sunrise to sunset.

A visit to Fish River Lodge can be as adventurous or as tranquil as you like. For the more energetic, there are long walks along the rim of the Canyon and sundowner trails where you can watch the sun set whilst sipping a glass of champagne.

The qualified guides can take you on an optional excursion hiking down into the heart of the Canyon or serve lunch at a permanent waterhole on the Fish River. Dinner & breakfast included.

Day 6 & 7: The rich history of the Namib Desert

Klein-Aus Vista

Klein Aus is a beautifully positioned private farm located on the edge of the Namib Desert with spectacular views from the boulder strewn hillsides across wide open plains.

Eagle’s Nest is set at the foot of the Aus mountains, 7km away from the reception and restaurant complex and yet easily accessible by sedan car in 10 minutes. Each chalet also has an equipped kitchenette, so guests are welcome to take a dinner pack and eat in their chalet, soaking up the desert atmosphere if they prefer.

There are self-guided walks that can be taken on the farm as well as optional nature drives to view the Namib wild horses, or you may decide to just relax in the peaceful surroundings.

You may like to drive to Luderitz on day 6 where you could enjoy an optional boat cruise (this can be booked through Luderitz Tours & Safaris who have an office on the high street), or a drive out to Diaz Point where you may see some of the many bird species that can be found here.

Nearby is the ghost town of Kolmanskop, abandoned to the desert when the diamond mining became unfeasible in this area. Dinner & breakfast included.

NamibRand Game Reserve

At Kwessi Dune lodge, you’ll find 10 cool and comfortable (and air-conditioned) chalets all with canvas walls and thatched roofs. Each bedroom has a separate ‘star gazer’ room, completely open to the sky, and the perfect spot from which to watch the celestial theatre show above. Views from the rooms, the main area and the swimming pool are of the vast, desert vistas and when you can bear to tear your eyes away, enjoy quad biking, scenic drives and walks, hot air ballooning, helicopter flights, horse riding and day trips to Sossusvlei.

Day 11 & 12: Time to Reflect

Zannier Reserve

Today your drive will head back up to the centre of Windhoek to the Zannier Reserve, just outside of the city.

Omaanda, meaning rhinoceros in Oshiwambo, is a five-star lodge set within the Zannier Reserve by N/a’an ku sê, an incredible private animal conservation reserve of 9000 hectares in the countryside surrounding Windhoek. Overlooking the boundless savannah, the lodge offers 10 comfortable round thatched huts, paying tribute to the traditional architecture of Ovambo. It also features a restaurant and a cosy bar, overlooking a heated infinity pool. A spa and a boma complete the lodge facilities, offering a typically local place to meet and mingle by the fire.
