This itinerary focuses on some of the undiscovered wilderness areas of South Africa. Sit back, relax and let someone else take the lead as you enjoy a luxury safari. First exploring the majestic Phinda Game Reserve, described as ‘Seven Worlds of Wonder’, Phinda encompasses an impressive 28 555 hectares (70 560 acres) of prime Big Five wilderness in KwaZulu-Natal. This Reserve comprises seven distinct habitats – from dry sand forest to wetland systems and mountain ranges. Catch a glimpse of the shy suni antelope, track rhino in the bushveld or observe breeding herds of elephant in fever tree forests.
From here you will fly to The Sabi Sands Game Reserve, possibly the most exclusive private game reserve in South Africa. In the 1920’ and 1930’ a number of landowner pioneers initiated the conservation of the area’s wildlife and in the 1950’s, the landowners initiated the dropping of the internal fences and the sharing of a common environmental management programme, today this makes up the 65,000-hectare Sabi Sands Game Reserve, located on the south-western corner of the Kruger National Park sharing a common 50km unfenced boundary with the Park to the east.
To end off, you will have a 2/3 hour road transfer to Timbavati, located in the Mpumalanga Province, north of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve shares a fenceless border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park. This 60 000 hectare reserve is best known for its two very rare white lions that were discovered here in the 1970s. The name ‘Timbavati’ refers to these two unique creatures, it means ‘the place where something sacred came down to earth from the heavens’.
After this incredible wilderness escape, you will fly back to Johannesburg for your onward journey.
